Dear Special Friends,
Read About Bulgaria and Our Summer Family Plans Below.
This summer I will be in Bulgaria and Hungary ministering. I always love these amazing trips and you can read more about Bulgaria below. We hope to see at least TWO New Churches starting in Bulgaria this year.
The First Time I Went To Bulgaria in 1996.
The First thing I noticed after I landed in Sofia “София”, Bulgaria the Capital, was the written words, all using the “Cyrillic” alphabet.
It was 1996, a year after moving away from Moscow, after three years of ministering in Russia.
Their alphabet is similar to Russian with the cyrillic letters. This is how Bulgaria is written on the signs, България.
So different, but since I knew some Russian I could read the signs and the words.
We were just beginning our ministry to the Nations of Eastern Europe and looking to which country would be the next place we would move to, for the the next step in our ministry in this part of the world.
One of the countries we were looking at moving to was possibly Bulgaria. We eventually decided on Budapest, Hungary where we ended up living for over 25 years.
When I flew to Bulgaria for a week of ministry in 1996, I knew no one there. I just had one Bulgarian Pastors’ name and he would meet me at the airport and be my gracious host and interpreter for the week I was there.
It was an amazing trip and I ministered all over the country, from Sofia, the capital to the Black Sea by Turkey. I have been there so many times since then, probably over 50, and I still love it.
We have seen so many new churches started there throughout the years. I still absolutely love going to Bulgaria and we have some amazing Bulgarian friends we work with there.
So this summer I will once again be there in this amazing country with some powerful Christians that are reaching their nation with the Gospel. We are so privileged to work alongside them.
This year we are looking to help start two more churches there. We work with key Pastors and invest $4000 in each of these new churches to help them get off the ground. Thank you for helping us do this.
Summer Family Plans. . .
Some of our best memories since we were children are from summertime.
For us, like most people, it was getting out of school when we were kids, going on vacations with our families, (usually to our relatives) and just more relaxing with the long warm days. We, like you probably have lifetime memories of those times.
For us so many years when we served overseas, we usually came back to the US in the summertime when the kids got out of school. We would usually base out of Florida, and we would speak at churches on the weekends. We loved that part of it, as we always loved speaking and sharing what God was doing around the world.
We would also always make sure we took a couple of family vacations. Usually a week in Colorado with my (Jim’s) family and other places, like a few days at Disney World or someplace like that. They made wonderful memories for all our kids.
Probably our main highlight of our summer will be our Family Reunion. We will have our kids and grandkids together in Asheville, North Carolina. Our kids and their families are so looking forward to it.
Thank you for helping us do what we do in Reaching the Nations of Eastern Europe with the Gospel. So many of you help us every month with your support.
Please know it is NEVER taken for granted.
Jim and Brenda
